Pattern
With a good imagination, you can see a hero with a sword over his shoulder... Well, okay, not the best visual pattern :)

Effect
The Champion is ready to destroy any enemy. He does not hesitate to take on a legend, even if it costs him his life. If he does that, he will be not forgotten (and you gain an action).

Strategy tips
Because of the pattern, you have to get pretty close to the enemy legend if you want to slay it. However, you do not need to be so precise as with the other legend-slaying beings, as the effect works on any adjacent space.

Interesting facts
This being evolved slowly but steadily during the game. Originally, it was named "Hero". It had a different pattern and a different effect (destruction of all adjacent enemy common pieces). When the Empire and Highland were split, the Mountain Troll got this ability, and the Hero got his current, more noble ability. Later, the pattern changed. And in the last steps before publishing, he was renamed to Champion so his name would not be confused with heroic pieces. Well, it is a completely different being in the end, but it still has its roots in the original Hero. :)

If you wonder what the difference is between a Champion and a Legend Slayer, this is how I described it for our artist: When the Champion kills a legend, he says: "It was my duty." When the Legend Slayer kills a legend, he says: "Where are more?"
